Change you Can Believe in?
President Barak Obama’s Campaign promise to us was “Change you can believe in.” He promised us a changed
life, a changed government, a changed way of doing many things that would benefit our country, and we roared approval of his promises because he convinced us he could do all these things and we believed him, a black man with an unusual name foreign to us.
His words seduced us and gave us hope, eliminated our doubts, removed our concerns and suspicions about his abilities. How was he able to convince us that he was “the one” with mere words and no proof of past accomplishments even remotely equal to the high office of President of the United States?
The truth is, there was no magic. Barak simply studied us and the situation in which we found ourselves. He knew we were disillusioned, tired of the same old life we struggled through. He knew we were desperate for a change. He only had to convince us that he could make that change happen. With the right words he supplanted our disillusion, concerns and fears with hope we could believe in.
Let me ask you. Have you experienced any change in your life? Are you better off today than you were
first time you heard Obama’s seductive words? What does that tell you? One thing is absolutely clear today as it was back then. Change doesn’t come easy and you cannot sit back and wait for someone to change your life. When it comes to your life and your conditions, only you can make it happen. No one can do it for you. You have to take the steps to change your life if you are unhappy with it.
Barak studied us and our situation. Then he developed a plan and got others to help him refine it and carry it out. There is nothing magical about that. We cannot all become president of the United States, but each of us can study our situation, develop a plan and find others to help us accomplish our goals.
